Visitors at Alton Towers were evacuated from the popular rollercoaster, The Wicker Man, twice in a single afternoon following the triggering of a fire alarm. Eyewitnesses reported a scene of concern as guests hastily left their belongings behind to exit the ride area.

One person at the scene has said the ride has since reopened, with queues filling out almost immediately. But not long after, the fire alarm went off a second time. They said: “Operations on Wicker Man were paused after reports of smoke in the ride area. Our technical team swiftly attended to the smoke and followed well-rehearsed procedures to quickly resolve the issue.
Wicker Man was launched in 2018 as the UK's first wooden rollercoaster in 20 years, and boasts a 2,000-metre-long track complete with two tunnels and reaches a top speed of 44mph. The latest incident comes just weeks before the theme park is due to close for the winter.
