Parents of children attending three Altrincham schools have expressed outrage over unreliable bus services that frequently fail to pick up pupils, forcing them to walk miles and arrive late for class. Similar issues are reported in neighbouring Stockport, where parents complain about buses arriving late, not at all, or getting lost. The Local Democracy Reporting Service witnessed the 746 bus passing at least 15 waiting children at a bus stop. Parents say the buses are often full, leaving children stranded and resorting to walking several miles to school. They criticize the authorities for neglecting the services despite encouraging school bus usage to reduce traffic.

Furious parents of children at three Altrincham schools have blasted transport bosses over buses they claim frequently fail to pick up pupils - forcing them to walk miles and making them late for class.

Mahzar Kazmi is the father of 13-year-old boy who goes to the boys’ grammar. “Unfortunately, by the time the buses reach Broadheath Primary School, the buses are often full to capacity and leave children at the bus stop,” he said. “When they are late, they are being kept in detention. The school says that even if you are late through no fault of your own, you have to make up the time for being late. The drivers should stop.”

A TfGM spokesperson told the LDRS: “We are aware of concerns regarding capacity on the 746 and 759 services, and we are sorry for any inconvenience these issues are causing pupils and their families. “To date, we are not aware of any student who has missed a bus home due to being late in the morning for reasons beyond their control.”Jane Beever is the head of Loreto Grammar School. She said: “We are always aware of what’s going on the buses because it can prove a challenge sometimes. There is a greater volume of students than there are bus spaces. We’re really keen that the girls get to school safely and buses are important for this.
