TV personality Waleed Aly has expanded on his verdict of why the Indigenous Voice to Parliament resoundingly failed after widespread backlash from his claims less educated Aussies voted No in the referendum.

Waleed Aly appears to have walked back on his comments linking low education levels with voting No in the Voice referendum.“If you were in a seat with high levels of tertiary education, Bachelor or Post you were at the very top end of the Yes vote,” he said.“That’s not to say people who were educated know what they’re doing and people who don’t have tertiary education don’t.”

Waleed Aly was slammed after he claimed the No vote in the Voice was driven by less-educated Australians. Aly argued voters also had to contend with whether there would be any “unintended consequences” from the proposal. “If we succumb to this, we might think we’re describing our opponents, but we’re more likely using them to describe ourselves. That’s especially pronounced when we attribute to them a single reason for their position, as though it is a sufficient explanation.
