Amad Diallo's recent goal against Liverpool has cemented his place as a rising star at Manchester United. The Ivorian winger, initially signed for a reported £19 million from Atalanta four years ago, has proven his worth with a string of impressive performances. He became the first United player since Robin van Persie in 2012/13 to score away at both Manchester City and Liverpool in the same season.
When Amad swept home the equaliser at Anfield on Sunday, he bolstered the idea that his £19million move from Atalanta four years ago this week is becoming to appear as somewhat of a bargain buy.
Despite his lack of pedigree at senior level, he had 61 goal involvements in 93 appearances for the respective Atalanta youth teams, causing a buzz of excitement at his potential as a future talent below the surface level discussion about his price tag. An injury picked up after his stint at the Black Cats scuppered a potential loan move to Feyenoord leaving him to be included in Erik Ten Hag’s squad for the upcoming season.
Ten Hag’s departure has appeared to have become somewhat of a sliding doors moment for Amad as he immediately shone under interim boss Ruud Van Nistelrooy, scoring twice in a 2-0 victory against PAOK in the Europa league.
