Limescale is a constant battle in households, but one woman has shared her foolproof cleaning hack for dissolving the white, chalky spots in kettles, and it's not vinegar
The continual battle against limescale is one every household faces, fighting the persistent white, chalky deposits that stick to surfaces and refuse to budge without a good scrub.
As effective as they are, many people are now eschewing chemical limescale removers, particularly for items used in the kitchen, in favour of more environmentally friendly alternatives. Green-cleaning experts, white vinegar stands out as a favoured natural cleanser, despite some being deterred by its distinctive sharp smell, reports the Express.
For kettles in need of a descale, she recommends on her clip: "Citric acid is amazing for descaling. Add a couple of tablespoons to your kettle, top up with water and bring it to the boil to get rid of all that nasty limescale." Yet, it's not solely about keeping kettles limescale-free; surplus citric acid can be transformed into a premium all-purpose cleaning spray. Walking us through the process, Kate said: "Make a citric acid cleaning solution by adding two tablespoons to 500ml of warm water, mix and add to a trigger spray bottle to use as a natural cleaner all over your home."
