Amazon is reportedly planning to launch a UK broadband service using its Project Kuiper satellite network, competing with Elon Musk's Starlink. The service aims to provide broadband access through satellites in low Earth orbit. Amazon's project awaits final approval from the UK's communications regulator, Ofcom.

Amazon has signalled that it is looking to push ahead with plans to launch a UK broadband service that will rival Elon Musk's Starlink , according to reports. The company's satellite operation, Project Kuiper , is not yet up and running, but it has previously said it could start deploying satellites early this year, with a broadband service rolled out later in the year. The satellites would be sent into low Earth orbit - joining Starlink 's more than 6,700.

The Financial Times reported the move was disclosed in filings by Amazon with the UK's communications regulator. The project needs approval from Ofcom to provide broadband services across the country, and a final decision on its licence is pending. Last month, Ofcom said Starlink's service had reached 87,000 connections across the UK, with the majority in rural areas.
