In a stunning leak of performance data, an Italian YouTuber has reviewed AMD's soon to be released Ryzen 9 9900X and compared it to the Ryzen 7 7800X3D in a selection of games. They appear to have obtained a retail sample too, which should perform similarly to reviews out next week although as they're ahead of the NDA by exactly seven days, it's possible drivers and BIOS updates may see slightly different performance on the day. In short, it's as we expected.
The six percent difference can be seen a little easier in the graph below with the biggest differences again in Cities Skylines II, Hogwarts Legacy, Cyberpunk 2077 and Counter Strike Go 2.Surprisingly there was also a four percent advantage to the Ryen 7 7800X3D at 4K, but we are dealing with a massively powerful RTX 4090 here which the vast majority gamers out there won't have.
It's an interesting quandary for AMD, which is essentially competing against itself and the standard Ryzen CPUs will always be a tough sell for gamers now that its Ryzen 3D V-Cache models are expected to launch a few months after each initial release, as happened with the Ryzen 7000 Series and the older Ryzen 7 5800X3D.
