President Joe Biden said he expects U.S. citizens to leave the war-torn Gaza Strip beginning on Wednesday.

The Rafah border crossing to Egypt opened to foreign passport holders, including some Americans and wounded people, according to State Department Spokesman Matthew Miller. “There are a number of American citizens who have crossed through Rafah,” Miller said Wednesday during a news conference.Miller refused to discuss how many Americans are leaving Gaza, but he said the department has been in communication with at least 400 Americans in Gaza who have expressed a desire to leave.
He added that the department is providing them with “specific instructions” about when to leave and where to go.Egypt has said it will not accept an influx of Palestinian refugees because of fears Israel will not allow them to return to Gaza after the war.
