Amex customers allege they were denied promised Avios points bonus in British Airways card promotion, potentially costing them hundreds of pounds.
Bank customers have accused American Express of shortchanging them in a promotion that promised a generous 60,000 Avios points bonus. The promotion, which targeted new customers signing up for the British Airways American Express Premium Plus card, offered the substantial reward to those who spent £3,000 in the first three months using a specific link. However, several customers claim they didn't receive the promised bonus, despite meeting the criteria.
Finance specialist Amelia Murray from Be Clever With Your Cash suspects many remain unaware of the issue. She advises anyone who believes they have been affected to double-check how they found the promotion and ensure they used the correct link to be eligible for the 60,000 bonus points. Murray urges customers to contact Amex immediately if they suspect they've been shortchanged, explaining the situation clearly. If Amex fails to resolve the issue, Murray recommends escalating the complaint to the Financial Ombudsman Service and seeking compensation for time, effort, and frustration. She also emphasizes the importance of capturing screenshots of promotional deals as proof. One Amex cardholder, Mark, successfully appealed to the Ombudsman after claiming he only received 25,000 Avios points instead of the advertised 60,000 despite meeting all requirements. The Ombudsman ruled in Mark's favor, ordering Amex to award the missing 35,000 Avios points and provide £100 in compensation
