Late teacher, college professor, administrator and community leader Dr. Marcella Maxwell leaves a legacy of improving the lives of those in her community spanning decades. A native of Cleveland, N.C., Maxwell moved to the New York area at a young age and became a secretary for the New York City Housing Authority . She went to college and earned her bachelor’s and master’s degrees in elementary education from Long Island University and doctorate from Fordham University.
Along with her dedicated work in education, Maxwell was an active member of the North Manhattan Alumnae Chapter of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc. and the Greater New York Chapter of the Links, Inc.Amsterdam News is renowned for its reporting of the news of the day from a Black perspective for 113 years.
