Ruben Amorim, the head coach of Sporting CP, has made scathing remarks about Marcus Rashford's training and footballing approach, just days after the Manchester United forward completed a loan move to Aston Villa. Amorim's comments suggest that he believes Rashford lacked the discipline and commitment needed to succeed under his management.
Ruben Amorim has appeared to take another jab at Marcus Rashford after the Manchester United forward completed a loan move to Aston Villa. Villa have an option to buy the 27-year-old in the summer for a set fee, believed to be £40 million. Should Rashford's loan spell prove successful, it seems he may have already played his final game for his boyhood club.
Speaking at his pre-match press conference ahead of United's FA Cup clash against Leicester City, which kicks off at 8pm on Friday, Amorim said: 'Like we said before, we are fighting for our jobs until the summer and I am just focused on these games. Thankfully about Marcus, he is in Birmingham now with Unai, so you can take these questions to another coach. I couldn't get Marcus to see the way you're supposed to play football and to train the way I see it. It was my decision - and Ty and Antony - to do these loans and to keep some players even without any transfers.' Amorim was unable to directly replace Antony or Rashford with a new forward during the transfer window, but was able to bring in Patrick Dorgu from Lecce to effectively allow Malacia to be loaned out. Speaking in his first official interview as a Villa player, Rashford commented: 'It's a club that's in a good position in the league, and they're pushing to get higher. Still in the Champions League, a good, ambitious manager and great talent in the squad. I've had to choose somewhere where I feel my style of football is suited to, and can help them and help me rediscover and improve as a player. Obviously it's only short-term loan I'm here, so I want to make the most of my time here, and the only way to do that is by using my attributes and my skillset to help the team.
