Sofyan Amrabat has been linked with United all summer but the Reds are not the only club seeking defensive midfield reinforcements
Manchester United have been linked with Sofyan Amrabat for much of the summer but reports have emerged that Premier League rivals Liverpool are keen on the midfielder.
However, the Anfield club have, according to the Liverpool Echo, made a shock move for Stuttgart skipper Wataru Endo as they seek midfield reinforcements. The Japan international, 30, has been granted permission by Stuttgart to talk with Liverpool. He is into the final year of his contract at the Bundesliga club and could be available for a cut-price fee. That in turn could clear the path for United to sign Amrabat although that deal seems to hinge on the Reds being able to offload fringe players to free up funds.Endo has previously played for Shonan Bellmare and Urawa Red Diamonds in his homeland along with Sint-Truiden of Belgium. He has earned more than 50 caps for his country.
Meanwhile, United are one of the Premier League sides reportedly interested in Barcelona forward Ansu Fati. The forward has expressed a desire to leave the La Liga giants according to AS Sport. The 20-year-old is said to feel let down by Barca boss Xavi, who didn't introduce him until the final 10 minutes of the La Liga opener against Getafe. Arsenal and Tottenham have also been touted as possible destinations for the prospect who has made more than 100 appearances for the Catalan club and still has four years left on his contract.
