Strictly Come Dancing star Amy Dowden has revealed her family were told she was 'hours away' from organ failure after the star developed sepsis during her cancer battle
The Strictly Come Dancing star became seriously unwell after beginning chemotherapy for stage three breast cancer in May 2023. Amy was rushed to hospital after going into septic shock, with doctors warning her parents and husband to prepare for the worst.
Reflecting on her sepsis battle, Amy recalled how she collapsed at home on a Saturday afternoon. The professional dancer was rushed to A&E, with the star remembered feeling “scared” she would pick up an infection on the way to the hospital as she was aware she had “no white blood cells” at the time. But sadly, things took a turn for the worse the next morning with Amy’s husband and parents told by the hospital: “The doctor wants to speak to you.”
Amy explained: “My parents went into meltdown mode, Ben went into protection mode of them, and when they got to the hospital I wasn’t in the room. I was having an emergency CT scan and the doctor had just said to my - my mum had to walk away.
