Two couples are on the brink in Jez Butterworth’s darkly comic new series.
, which has traded on his chummy affability for seven years now,may surprise them. Its star is a darker, edgier Corden, one who grieves and swears and threatens to fight people. That it marks his first big project since the news broke in April that Corden would depart, however, is a coincidence more than anything else. “Looking at what I’ve done in my career over the past 20 years, it’s pretty evident that I don’t really have a plan,” he says.
“I always wanted a career that was varied; I don’t really feel like I ever sat thinking,He continues: “When I took the job to host, lots of friends of mine in London were like, ‘This is a mistake. You’re an actor.’ The first two films I made were a film with Shane Meadows and a film with Mike Leigh, back in the late ’90s, early 2000s. Then, I can remember saying to my agent, ‘I’d love to try and audition for some comedies,’ and I couldn’t get seen for any until I wrote a TV series.
