EXCLUSIVE: Anas Sarwar told the Record he stood by his party's support for hate crime laws but insisted they should have included misogyny.
Anas Sarwar has denied Scottish Labour "ran for the hills" this week to avoid defending controversial hate crime legislation which the party voted for.
But the Scottish Government has faced an intense backlash this week as well as scrutiny from around the world over what some have alleged is an outright attack on freedom of speech. Asked today about Yousaf's claim that Labour had "run for the hills", he told the Record: "I think the First Minister's response is frankly laughable.
"There are three different parts to it. One is the legislation, second is the implementation, and third is the communication. "As part of that implementation, we've had police resources cut, improper training, police stations closed, and more burden placed on officers as thousands more crimes are reported.
Scottish politics Yousaf admitted yesterday he was concerned about the high numbers but added any new law is likely to see numerous early “vexatious” complaints.
