Jordan Iverson could become the first Alaskan to complete the triple crown of open-water swimming if and when her swim across the English Channel is certified.
ANCHORAGE, Alaska -
The triple crown is awarded to people who swim the 20 Bridges Swim in Manhattan, the Catalina Channel in California, and the English Channel, which separates England and France. Iverson, who has been swimming for over 25 years, completed the Manhattan and California swims last year.“As of the end of last year, there was about 332 people in the world that had achieved this triple crown status,” Iverson said.
“It’s nice not staring at a black line all day and being able to swim and see things from a different viewpoint,” Iverson said. “Because you’re seeing everything from, you know, the water’s viewpoint. There’s just something about open water that I find very, like calming and peaceful, and being able to see, you know, everything under the water too that so many people never get to see I just really love.”“Jordan is someone that could perform at the highest level,” Gamblin said.
Members of the swim team were so excited for her to complete this swim, they wanted to give her care packages on her way out.
