The annual Vets in Vettes event drew muscle car enthusiasts and honored those who have served.
Veterans show off their muscle at Anchorage Corvette show ANCHORAGE , Alaska - Hundreds of people gathered Monday in honor of Memorial Day, honoring the fallen through camaraderie and a special car contest. In a parking lot across the street from the VA Medical Center were war veterans, pilots, car enthusiasts and others with vehicles spanning the decades of makes and models.
More than 100 cars were on display at the Anchorage Corvette Association’s annual Vets in Vettes event. For veterans such as Tyrone Davis, it’s a day to show off his car while also honoring those who served. “Corvette Grand Sport, and she’s wonderful,” said Davis, a U.S. Air Force Master Sgt. “Memorial Day means so much to us, because, like you say, I have vets within my family and this has been my life, all my life, you know.”
There were several trophies awarded at the car show, including a Best of Show award given to Robert Kusmider with his 1955 Nash Metropolitan. He calls it his “pinky car,” amidst all the muscle. “Everybody loves Pinky Car,” Kusmider said. “The kids vote, and the kids love pinky car, so that’s how you get it!”
