Proposition 8 on Anchorage's municipal ballot would earmark millions of dollars for public use toilets.
Alaska's News Source is telling Alaska's storyANCHORAGE, Alaska - Public restrooms in Anchorage have become a scarce commodity, according to Assembly Chair Christopher Constant, who is sponsoring a proposition that asks voters to purchase new toilets.
The Assembly has been looking at Portland Loos, a stand-alone bathroom made in Portland, Oregon. The stainless steel bathrooms are wired for electricity, connected to city sewer and water, and able to function year-round in cold climates. Johnson said he supported putting the issue on the ballot for voters to decide, but personally, he voted against the proposition. He said he hoped the conversation could continue when there was more specific information about where the toilets would go and how much they would cost. He referenced an ongoing study that is looking at which areas in the city have the greatest need.
