A Pictish ring believed to date back around 1,000 years has been uncovered beneath a Scottish town by a volunteer whose family whose ancestors moved there centuries ago.
A 1,000-year-old ring has been discovered in a Scottish town by a descendent of a family who lived there.
Ralph's forebears were among the families encouraged to relocate to Burghead to support the local fishing industry. Describing himself as an "enthusiastic amateur", he had previously undertaken two digs at the site before making the amazing discovery. "We certainly weren’t expecting to find something like this lying around the floor of what was once a house but that had appeared of low significance so, in typical fashion, we had left work on it until the final day of the dig."
