Measures must be in place to protect workers and their families if the worst happens
When people are injured they can recover compensation by making a personal injury claim against an insurance policy.
For workers, it gives a fair and direct route to recovering rightful damages but for the employer, it also means they don’t have to compensate staff out of their own pocket - it’s the insurer who pays. Under the Road Traffic Act 1988 it is mandatory for motor insurance providers to join the MIB and contribute to the fund for victims. An Employer’s Liability Insurance Bureau would give injured workers a fair route to recover damages if they were injured at work and they find out later their employer had no insurance in place.
