A new map of the Titan submersible's debris field has revealed that the vessel was roughly 1,600ft away from the Titanic's bow before the deadly implosion.
The Coast Guard opened a public hearing earlier this month that is part of a high-level investigation into the cause of the implosion that killed five passengers during their descent to Titanic's historic wreckage. The support ship Polar Prince then sent repeated messages asking if Titan could still see the ship on its onboard display.
Eerie new footage showing a deep-sea salvage mission to retrieve the wreckage of the doomed Titan submersible was released Monday as part of the inquiry into the disaster. The video, released late Monday, captured the high-tech efforts that went into salvaging debris from the Titan submersible wreck 'The whole idea behind the company was to make money,' Mr Lochridge testified. 'There was very little in the way of science.'
'This can't be the end of deep ocean exploration. This can't be the end of deep-diving submersibles and I don't believe that it will be,' Mr Sohnlein said. Coast Guard also officials noted at the start of the hearing that the submersible had not been independently reviewed, as is standard practice. New York City-based banker Renata Rojas delivered harrowing testimony about the doomed mission on the fourth day of a public hearing into tragedy, on September 19.
