Bournemouth manager Andoni Iraola spoke to the press ahead of Saturday's Premier League opener against Nottingham Forest, giving updates on the club's next signing and illness within his squad
Andoni Iraola says Bournemouth are fighting to get Evanilson's transfer registered in time to face Nottingham Forest on Saturday, whilst admitting members of his squad have had to contend with illness this week.
Now Iraola, heading into his second season in English football, took his first press conference on Friday morning. Via BBC Sport, the main topic was the imminent £40m arrival of Brazilian striker Evanilson from FC Porto, with the South Coast side fighting a battle to meet the 12 noon registration deadline in order to allow him to travel to the City Ground tomorrow as part of the matchday squad.
Bournemouth struck up a positive record for themselves in pre-season, drawing with Arsenal and defeating Champions League hopefuls Girona. Those results of course won't mean anything come Saturday, serving mainly to build up players' fitness. "I think doing pre-season, the most important thing is to not lose players in the process of the build up. We've done a good job there. We have one or two players who have been poorly with some illnesses, but I hope they can help us in the game."
