Bournemouth manager Andoni Iraola refuted suggestions that his side got lucky after Everton were not awarded a penalty when Dominic Calvert-Lewin went down in the area under a challenge from Tyler Adams.

The Spaniard said: “I haven’t seen the replays but I think it is the kind of penalty like in life I have to look at the same one we asked in the first half for Tyler Adams. “We had to play this kind of game against Everton because they are very consistent in how they play. They put you under pressure with long balls from Pickford, set-pieces and they are really physical but I think we dealt quite well with the game. The 43-year-old, who joined from Rayo Vallecano last summer, revealed that his captain Neto had not needed to apologise for his error that led to Beto’s equaliser in the dressing room. The Brazilian goalkeeper dropped the ball from Dwight McNeil’s cross, enabling the Everton substitute to finish from close range.
