Man United have been contacted by the Football Association after Alejandro Garnacho posted a picture of Andre Onana being swamped by his teammates alongside two gorilla emojis.

Andre Onana has demanded that potential disciplinary action for Alejandro Garnacho 'go no further' after the Manchester United winger used gorilla emojis over a picture of his penalty save on Tuesday night.

Garnacho posted a picture of Onana and his United teammates celebrating the late penalty save in Tuesday's 1-0 Champions League win over FC Copenhagen. Alongside the image, two gorilla emojis were added. After being advised of the potential racial connotations involved, the 19-year-old deleted his post but the Football Association have been in touch with United over the matter. The governing body could still charge Garnacho with a breach of their guidelines regarding racially sensitive social media posts.ALSO READ: De Gea posts cryptic tweet amid United reports

Alongside a picture of the celebrations that followed his penalty save, Onana wrote on his Instagram story: "People cannot choose what I should be offended by. I know exactly what @garnacho7 meant: power & strength. This matter should go no further."United have previously fallen foul of the regulations, with Edinson Cavani receiving a three-game ban in 2020 after writing 'Gracias Negrito' to a friend who congratulated him for scoring.

Across Manchester, Bernardo Silva received a one-game ban and was fined £50,000 after posting a photo of a young Benjamin Mendy alongside an offensive image for the Spanish confectionery company Conguitos. Mendy publicly stated that he thought the post was okay but his teammate was charged regardless.
