Certain apps that were available on the Play Store could jeopardise your personal security
Android users across the UK have been issued an urgent warning over a security threat that could steal your banking details.
The security team at Threat Fabric discovered some apps uploaded to the Google Play Store are carrying the Anatsa banking trojan. Once installed, the bug infiltrates devices and steal credentials that can be used to authorise users when they launch and log into mobile banking applications. Hackers can then gain full control of someone's accounts including credentials, credit card details, balance and payment information as well as transfer funds without the owner noticing. Threat Fabric said it's seen fice new dropper apps appear on the Play Store in just dour months, all posing as PDF reader software, the Mirror reports. One such software is named PDF Viewer - Reader & Editor and was downloaded over 10,000 times before its deletion.
"The latest campaign by Anatsa reveals the evolving threat landscape that banks and financial institutions face in today’s digital world. The recent Google Play Store distribution campaigns targeting US, DACH, and UK regions demonstrate the immense potential for mobile fraud and the need for proactive measures to counter such threats.
