Andros Townsend is yet to find a club since being released by Everton this summer

Andros Townsend has opened up on the difficulties he's faced in finding a new club since leaving Everton - revealing being rejected by Burnley was one of the "toughest conversations" he's ever had in his career.

Now, though, the England international has now revealed that after weeks of training with the Clarets, discussions about squad numbers and later house and school hunting in preparation for signing a deal, his world was "rocked" when he was informed there was no longer an offer on the table at Turf Moor.

"But now after watching Burnley's first five games, I understand. With Luca Koleosho and Zeki Amdouni, these young players they have brought in. Burnley are a club that like sellable assets, so begrudgingly I understand why he [Kompany] made that decision not to block their pathway by signing a 32-year-old."

As a result of not playing a competitive game in 18 months, Townsend says he has seen moves to Turkey and Saudi Arabia fall through and admits he is now just simply "waiting for the phone to ring".
