'Good safe housing should be a human right'

Andy Burnham has backed calls for a new law to prevent any more children dying from damp and mouldy housing following the death of Awaab Ishak. The Greater Manchester mayor said he 'strongly supports' the campaign to make sure no other child, or anyone else, dies due to mould in their home.

Since then, more than 80,000 people have signed a petition calling for Awaab's Law to make sure no one else dies due to mould in their home. Speaking at a press conference about housing on Monday , Mr Burnham said Greater Manchester is 'living in the shadow of Awaab's death'.He said: "Good safe housing should be a human right in the UK. We really welcome the campaign and strongly support what you're saying.
