Andy Burnham has released a statement on the crisis in Gaza and 'condemned without reservation the appalling attacks in Israel by Hamas'. The Mayor also said he was 'determined' that all communities in Greater Manchester would be kept safe, while also reiterating the right of the public to take part in peaceful protest.
"As a result of Hamas’ actions, many thousands more lives are now at risk on both sides of this conflict. We know there are heightened concerns in our Jewish community today and have spoken to the Chief Constable of Greater Manchester Police who has assured us that there will continue to be an increased police presence in all areas of our city-region with Jewish community organisations."We are determined that all our communities in Greater Manchester will be kept safe.
"We endorse the important statement made by The Muslim-Jewish Forum of Greater Manchester, who have said 'The conflict in Gaza should not be allowed to harm community relations in Greater Manchester. We call upon local Muslim and Jewish communities to support and protect each other against any form of hatred and provocation. It is essential that we all be able live together harmoniously as fellow citizens of Greater Manchester'.
