Fiji head coach Mick Byrne has suggested that Ireland out-half Sam Prendergast got away with not being sent off because he played for the home side
Fiji head coach Mick Byrne has hinted that Ireland's out-half Sam Prendergast may have escaped a red card due to playing on home turf. Post-match, Ireland's Andy Farrell dismissed the suggestion, describing the game as a "wild west" affair at the breakdown during the Autumn Series clash at the Aviva Stadium.
While Prendergast was off the field, a bunker review by Andrew McMenamy confirmed the yellow card decision, allowing him to rejoin the game later. When questioned about a potential red card for Prendergast, Byrne quipped: "Aw no, I think he was wearing a green jersey so it stayed yellow.
On the topic of match officials and Fiji's 17 penalties, Byrne conceded: "They're probably on us, they're definitely on us," acknowledging his team's overzealousness at times.
