Murray was hoping to sign off on his illustrious career with a third Olympic gold medal, but it just wasn't to be, losing 6-1, 6-4 in the men's doubles quarter final.
Sir Andy Murray 's tennis career for the ages has ended after an agonising Olympics defeat in men's doubles at Roland Garros.
Team USA took the first set in just 30 minutes with a 6-1 scoreline, and despite some valiant efforts from British pair to prolong the inevitable, Fritz and Paul eventually won the decisive second set 6-4. The American duo were made to work for the points to close out the match but will fancy their chances of going all the way to claim Olympic gold.
