The umpire’s tablet was unable to produce a replay, and to make matters worse the big screens around Grandstand showed the incident on a loop for minutes

The delay stretched beyond three minutes, but all the while supporters within the stadium were able to watch the incident on the two big screens around Grandstand on a loop – allowing fans to make up their own minds.

Replays showed there was a clear double bounce, but Engzell was unable to make the call as she could not view it on her tablet. Murray could even be seen pointing at the replays on one screen, while fans clapped impatiently over what was quickly becoming a farce. “I have nothing here, this comes from TV. VR is not working,” Engzell then told Moutet, who in turn looked at Murray and said: “They do not have the replay.”

Engzell then made the following announcement to the crowd: “Unfortunately the VR is not working, what you are watching on the TV up here comes from the TV, so the original call stands.” That led to confusion within the crowd, but it was Murray who won the point given Engzell had believed there was a double bounce, meaning the right decision was met – but through no help of the VR system.
