The Labour party conference has begun in Liverpool

Angela Rayner urged people to "stare right back" at the Conservative Party as she took aim at its record in government.

She accused the Conservatives of taking a "sledgehammer to foundations on which good life can be built" and pledged to make the provision of secure and good-quality housing central to a Labour government. Reflecting on her own time living in a council house, Ms Rayner said: "Labour took me from a council estate to the parliamentary estate"

“We’ll give first-time buyers ‘first dibs’ on new developments in their communities, with a comprehensive mortgage guarantee scheme for those who don’t have access to the bank of mum and dad.“We will deliver planning reform to build the houses the next generation so desperately needs.”
