'This is why the public shouldn't be trusted to vote on anything.'
We like a Nando’s as much as everyone else, and Wetherspoons does an excellent curry club, fish Friday, etc.Apparently so, according to residents of Preston who have voted them top establishments in awards intended to celebrate local businesses.Tasty they may be, but they’re definitely also chains.
JD Wetherspoon pub The Twelve Tellers was ruled ‘Pub of the Year’ over craft beer joint the Plug and Taps and student bar The Adelphi. Other popular restaurants in the city centre which didn’t reach the finals included posh Greek joint the Olive Tree Brasserie and Stratos.Paul Eyles said: ‘Lol I mean really? I know Preston isn’t renowned for being overrun with fine eateries but we can definitely do better than Nandos!’
Another person joked: ‘Runner up was Burger King, who sadly lost out coz the judges visited when they’d run out of onion rings’.But Cllr Peter Kelly, who attended the city centre business awards, said Nando’s staff worked ‘very hard’ to provide an excellent service.‘This is why the public shouldn’t be trusted to vote on anything.’
