Joe Farrell with the latest from the angling scene
Upon the angling scene today, there's no doubt that everyone will recognise, tackle shop shelves are lined with a great many different products that are specifically designed to give our baits an extra kick. I think everyone will agree that across every discipline, flavourings, such as glugs, liquids, colourings and spices have now become a massive seller within the tackle industry.
Tampering with flavours is something I’ve always loved to do, even decades ago, I was always found dusting my maggots, flavouring my bread and of course colouring every bait I could. To simply just do my best to gain even the slightest of an edge on someone.Once aided only by the many food sources that lay on the local supermarket aisles, it was an era that was fun and most importantly, just what our hobby is all about.
Often questioning myself after testing things successfully on the very same circuits I was competing upon, I still argue within myself ‘why’ I hadn’t been confident upon my earlier years within angling. Maybe it's been the fact that on past success on a particular bait, it has seen many, myself included, persistently ‘sticking it out’ in hope of another great day, on that very bait that has been good for us in the past.Or quite simply it’s been seen as a ‘risk’, unable to take that chance.
