Five Bureau of Animal Industry (BAI) officials who were sued over their process of handling African Swine Fever (ASF) have gotten 'full support' from their fellow veterinarians from the Philippine Veterinary Medical Association (PVMA). ManilaBulletin
Currently facing the administrative charges filed by the Provincial Government of Cebu, five Bureau of Animal Industry officials who were sued over their process of handling African Swine Fever have gotten "full support" from their fellow veterinarians from the Philippine Veterinary Medical Association .
“The Philippine Veterinary Medical Association, as the national organization of all licensed veterinarians in the country, expresses its full support for the veterinarians named in a complaint filed at the Office of the Ombudsman based on their role in the ASF situation in Cebu,” the group wrote. The veterinary association maintained that the doctors who are currently facing charges "followed the accepted legal orders" which includes the Department of Agriculture Administrative Circular No. 2, Series of 2022 with amendment to Department of Agriculture Administrative Circular No. 12 Series of 2019 regarding the National Zoning and Movement Plan for the Prevention and Control of African Swine Fever; and Department of Agriculture Administrative Circular No.
"This is an internationally accepted practice in stopping the spread of this contagious, resilient virus that can survive in the environment for long period of time, and in pork and pork products that did not undergo cooking at a temperature of 70 °C for at least 30 minutes," it was explained.
