King Island mayor Marcus Blackie has been threatened with a Rex blacklisting after he accused the airline of price-gouging.

Like on King Island – population 1600, in the middle of the Bass Strait – where mayorhas been threatened with a Rex blacklisting after he accused the airline of price-gouging his constituents.“When we are ripped off, we take it personally,” he told local raglast week. “I hear it all the time. I need to travel frequently and don’t want to hit the ratepayers up all the time, but it is very hard to find a reasonable fare.

“Should official action not be forthcoming, we will no longer welcome Cr Blackie on our services, as we too take his baseless and self-serving remarks personally.” ) banned this publication from its lounges. Though, clearly, even the flying kangaroo could learn plenty from Rex on sheer vindictiveness.

Is Rex seriously contemplating refusing service to a public official because he got a bit fast and loose with his criticism? Is that even legal?

Then there were Rex’s tactics at Whyalla, to which it stopped flying last year after the council-owned airport instituted passenger security screenings. Rex described this as “a devious and underhanded attempt force Rex to subsidise the screening costs of Qantas, whose services are legally required to be screened”.
