Last night marked the annual Christmas pantomime tradition with the family attending St Helen Royal Theatre's Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs. The classic tale underwent a chaotic reinvention filled with innuendo and camp humor, featuring a star-studded cast of local legends and television personalities. Despite a slow start, comedy relief Muddles, played by Lewis Devine, successfully engaged the audience.
Last night I gathered the kids and forced my partner to enjoy our annual Christmas pantomime. The activity has become a December staple in our household and one we deliberate for months prior.
The pantomime is a slow burner like any other but Muddles, the comedy relief played Lewis Devine, did a bang-up job to speed things along. In around 10 minutes the crowd was under Muddles' thumb and antics were in full swing. However, an early, festive segment involving Muddles, Prince Fredrick and Nurse Nelly rallies the audience to the max. Spoilers ahead!
The remainder of the show is filled with high spirits and laughs that only increase as time goes on. There's plenty of audience interaction but you'll be fine as long as you're not in the front row. Prepare to be soaked no matter where you're sitting.
