Emmerdale is facing another departure as Susan Cookson, who plays Wendy Posner, is reportedly leaving the show due to budget cuts. The actress is said to be 'devastated' by the decision, but the door is open for her possible return in the future.
Another Emmerdale favorite is reportedly set to bid farewell to the popular ITV soap. In recent times, several regulars have exited the show, including Dean Andrews' character Will Taylor, who was dramatically killed off during the festive season. Now, according to reports, Susan Cookson , who has portrayed nurse Wendy Posner for seven years, is next in line. Susan entered the soap as the mother of Lee Posner, a rapist, and later her other son Luke joined the cast.
Recently, her character had an affair with Dr Liam Cavanagh while in a relationship with Bob Hope. However, The Sun reports that Susan is 'devastated' by the decision for her character to leave the show. A source told the publication: 'She's really well liked in the cast but unfortunately budget cuts mean hard decisions need to be made and that resulted in Susan being one of a number of cast leaving.' They added: 'ITV is going through a cash crisis with the soaps and the money just isn't there to pay for everyone any more. Ultimately if the character isn't inspiring a lot of story from producers then there's no space for them in the show anymore.', reports the Daily Star. It's also been reported that the rest of the cast are feeling uneasy, wondering if they could be next on the chopping block. But adding a silver lining, the source said: 'The door is very much being left open for Susan in future and it's hoped that one day she could return to see her grandson Harry.'
