The federal opposition leader said it would be a 'disaster' if the government were returned in a minority due, in part, to 'Muslim candidates from Western Sydney'.
The Alliance Against Islamophobia has made a complaint against federal Opposition Leader Peter Dutton for religious vilification .
In the course of his answer, Mr Dutton said: "The prime minister, if he's in a minority government in the next term of parliament, it will include the Greens, it'll include Green-Teals, it'll include Muslim candidates from Western Sydney. It will be a disaster." "Under New South Wales law it is unlawful to carry out a public act that incites hatred, serious contempt, severe ridicule against any person based on their religious background.
The complaint also referenced what Mr Dutton said in response to Mr Khawaja's comments: "My problem is not with somebody of Islamic faith — quite the opposite — not with somebody of Jewish faith. A spokesperson for the alliance said this comment "further reinforces the harmful narrative that Muslim Australians have foreign allegiances, prioritise foreign interests over Australian ones, and are detrimental to Australian society".The International Court of Justice earlier this year ruled Israel must do everything in its power to prevent its troops from committing genocide in Gaza.The Gaza Health Ministry said since October 7 Israel has killed more than 39,000 Palestinians.
