A senior Jewish MP has spoken out.

Labour has been ‘stained’ by ongoing allegations of anti-Semitism within the party that are likely to drag on for years, a senior Jewish MP has said.

The Liverpool Riverside MP told BBC Radio 4’s Today programme: ‘There is a major problem of anti-Semitism in the Labour Party, and I do understand that many long-standing Labour Party members are so shocked about this, they find it very hard to accept.Labour leader Jeremy Corbyn was recorded saying he was concerned evidence had been ‘mislaid’

‘It is clear that the leader of the Labour Party, having failed to deal with anti-Semitism within the party, now admits he knew about some of the problems.’The remarks come just a day after Jeremy Corbyn was recorded on tape by Dame Margaret Hodge saying he was ‘concerned’ evidence had been ‘mislaid, ignored or not used and that there had to be some better system.’

But Ms Ellman accused the Labour leader of allowing the party to become ‘rife’ with anti-Jewish racism as he failed to take adequate measures to tackle it.Labour’s shadow housing secretary John Healey said it should be easier to suspend members while anti-Semitism is investigated
