Stephen Beatty was sent off for Rossa while Daire King was given his marching orders late on for St John's, who join group winners Cargin in the last eight

St John’s withstood a late Rossa rally to book their place in the Antrim SFC quarter-finals at the expense of their west Belfast rivals at Lámh Dhearg on Saturday evening.

Ronan Donnelly and Conor Adams were on target early on for St John’s with Dominic McEnhill opened Rossa’s account from a free before Beatty finished off a great move to level the game at 0-2 all. Rossa ended the half strongly with points from Fleming and a stunning effort from Tommy Morgan before McGowan’s second gave St John’s a 0-8 to 0-6 lead at the break.

McBride added his third from play before corner-back Enda McGurk got in on the act and St John’s were seven clear playing with an extra man. Having missed the chance to open up a nine-point lead, St John’s now only led by three and they then lost King to a straight red for kicking out at Rossa skipper Niall Crossan.
