Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez speaks at an event at the US Climate Action Center at the COP26 U.N. Climate Summit in Glasgow, Scotland, Tuesday, Nov. 9, 2021. Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, D-N.Y., mocked Democratic strategist James Carville Sunday over his argument that too many “preachy” women set the party’s tone.
“If you listen to Democratic elites – NPR is my go-to place for that – the whole talk is about how women, and women of color, are going to decide this election,” he stated, according to the New York Times. “I’m like: ‘Well, 48% of the people that vote are males. Do you mind if they have some consideration?’”
“Woke stuff” is killing the Democratic Party, with members using language incomprehensible to the average American, according to the strategist.Rep. Ocasio-Cortez has previously criticized Carville’s stances. In 2021, she suggested the Democratic Party’s turnout among younger Americans would falter partly because of his attitude toward liberal voters.
“Before people disingenuously complain ‘woke’ is denigrating to older people, it’s actually pundits like Carville using terms like ‘woke’ to insult voters under 45 that’s denigrating,” the congresswomanat the time. “Don’t wonder why youth turnout falls when Dems talk about them like this. We need everyone.”at the time the term “woke” was a “derogatory euphemism” for civil rights.. “Framing racial justice as ‘controversial’ is key to delaying the protection of voting rights until it’s too late.
