The Austin Police Association and representatives from the City of Austin are returning to the bargaining table to work on a new contract for Austin Police. Pol

Former Assistant Police Chief Bruce Mills , now the interim assistant city manager for police and other public safety services, told CBS Austin he was encouraged by the negotiations. He said he was also happy to hear the police union’s assessment that they are not at an impasse and were hopeful for implementing the police oversight act.that they want increased police oversight , and they rejected an alternative favored by police by the same wide margin.

“Our position is that we cannot be forced to just agree to everything in prop a, but at the same time, we’re not trying to stand in its way," Bullock said. But some council members insist any new contract proposals from the Austin Police Association should reflect the will of the Austin voters and the police oversight they want.
