Apple’s “Friday Night Baseball ” doubleheaders will return on April 7 the streamer announced. ◽️Rangers at Cubs ◽️Padres at Braves The exclusive games will no longer be free for all viewers as they were in the package’s first season last year.
Also, MLB is entering the second year of a two-year streaming deal with NBC’s Peacock premium service that’s reportedly worth $60 million overall. It will stream 19 Sunday morning games this season from April to September.The success of the Apple-MLB deal isn’t clear because Apple famously doesn’t comment on things such as viewership for its streaming properties, and baseball is following its business partner’s lead on the topic.
Apple’s foray into baseball has been odd given it’s in direct contrast to how the company has approached its MLS relationship. One is a dip in the water; the other is all-out surfing in the big ocean. The production quality last year for these games was off-the-chart gorgeous but the announcing crews came off as if forced together at the last minute. You can’t fool viewers. This year’s group of broadcasters appears stronger but we’ll see.
