“The championship needs KTM”
Aprilia CEO Massimo Rivola says MotoGP must heed the “warning from KTM ’s situation” and believes “the championship needs” the Austrian brand.
While there is cautious optimism that the brand can find new investment and continue operations, there is a “planned” withdrawal from MotoGP set for 2026 as part of cost-saving measures set out in a creditors hearing last month. With MotoGP set for a new contract cycle with its manufacturers from 2027, there is a risk the series could lose its second marque in five years following Suzuki’s exit at the end of 2022.
“In my opinion, there are a few things that can be managed a bit better, regulated a bit better. But when you make a rule you need to be in a position to control the rule, I understand this.“I think we should do something and I hope for the next five-year contract we will discuss it again.”
