BREAKING: The UK is set to shiver over the next five days, sparking yellow weather warnings and London’s first ever Severe Weather Emergency Protocol. A blast of Arctic air is spreading southwards, sending temperatures as low as -10°C in large areas.
The Met Office this morning extended its weather warning for snow and ice to cover larger parts of the UK.
Speaking about what this means for London’s homeless, mayor Sadiq Khan said: ‘Across the capital, we are doing everything we can to prevent anyone sleeping rough in these freezing conditions as we work to build a fairer and safer London for everyone. Dr Agostinho Sousa from the UKHSA said: ‘Cold weather can have serious consequences for health, and older people and those with heart or lung conditions can be particularly at risk.
‘Keep your bedroom windows closed at night. Wearing several layers of clothing will keep you warmer than one thicker layer.’
