New Zealand is set to have a new Prime Minister as soon as Sunday, with the Labour Party revealing only one nomination following Jacinda Ardern's sudden resignation.
Jacinda Ardern's shock resignation announcementMr Hipkins, 44, is currently the Education and Police Minister and had also taken charge of the nation's COVID-19 response at the height of the pandemic.

He will need to be formally endorsed by Labour as the party's new leader, and that is expected to happen on Sunday afternoon. The High Court later ruled Mr Joyce was ineligible to sit in parliament, along with four other Senators, before he later renounced his New Zealand citizenship. "This summer I had hoped to find a way to prepare for not just another year but another term because that is what this year requires. I have not been able to do that," she said.
