The purchase would be a significant one for the couple. The Sussexes have not had a home in Europe since Prince Charles asked them to vacate Frogmore Cottage in March 2023. It also puts to rest recent unsubstantiated rumours circulating on the internet that the couple is experiencing marital woes.
A home in Portugal may be a way to have a presence on Harry’s home continent while also feeling a sense of peace. Plus, all geographical and familial practicality aside, Melides is simply… chic. The sleepy, artistic village – 30 minutes from the more sceney Comporta – is known for its laidback and slow-living charm. Modern houses are nestled amidst its rolling farmland and its small, white-washed town boasts a fresh fish market.
