The aim would be to increase bus capacity while not decreasing room for general traffic

Changes to Nottingham's roads and junctions to benefit buses would not negatively impact motorists, the city council has said. A £11.4m investment is planned into Greater Nottingham's public transport network in the next three years to increase bus reliability and improve journey time savings through the delivery of additional bus lane schemes, junction improvements and priority at traffic signals for late running buses.

The proposal, which was discussed by Nottingham City Council's Executive Board on October 18, aims to support bus services at risk of withdrawal, helping them maintain "attractive levels of frequency" to increase passenger numbers. Targeted fares support would also be put in place for young people, people with disabilities and the unemployed.

Nottingham City Council said the detailed designs of schemes were being finalised ahead of the public consultation, but that the aim would be to increase bus capacity while not decreasing room for general traffic. Improvements are expected to target these areas:A Nottingham City Council spokesperson said: "We will generally be adding additional capacity for buses without taking any existing capacity from general traffic.

"Until we finalise the detailed design of the schemes and complete traffic modelling we don’t have any more detail to share." District centre bus hubs would be set up in Arnold, Sherwood, Mapperley, Netherfield, Carlton Hill, Bilborough, West Bridgford, Mapperley, Radford, Bobbersmill under the proposals. Passengers were enthused for the investment into Nottingham's bus network when details of the improvement plan were revealed.
