Ariana Grande reveals she may permanently retain the vocal habits she developed for her role as Galinda in the Wicked film adaptation.
Ariana Grande has revealed that she may never be rid of the vocal habits she picked up for her role in Wicked. The 31-year-old pop star plays Galinda in the hit two-part movie musical, with fans and critics alike raving about her transformation into the iconic character originated by Kristen Chenoweth.
Part of that transformation included working with a vocal coach in order to keep her vocal patterns consistent, and Ariana has now admitted she’s had a hard time transitioning out of her Galinda voice. When asked about her new voice, she told Variety: ‘I think that might stay.’ She continued: ‘Galinda required a lot of vocal work for me. Certain things maybe won’t melt away. Some will, but I’m really grateful for the pieces that will stay with us forever. What a beautiful thing to be left with, and to feel the ghost of every day.’ She continued, explaining that because she and co-star Cynthia Erivo took so long getting into character in order to play their roles, it takes an equally long time for those character choices to ‘melt away.’ Ariana shared that because it took so long to get into character, it makes sense it would take a long time to get out. She allowed that while people may make fun, she knew she had a job to do and total immersion was what the piece required. She even joked about her much-talked-about blonde eyebrows, saying that maybe she’ll ‘never find them.’ The second half of the two part film, Wicked: For Good, is due to hit cinemas on 21 November 2025, much to the delight of fans who can’t get enough of the first installment.
